I never read my newspaper anymore - it's old hat

In fact I had to cancel it completely. I never read it. I listen to the news on TV in the background while I work online, and then I open a news channel if I hear of anything interesting while I am working. Now here is a link to an article that seems to say the opposite of what I am saying:

The Internet Blah

"What the Internet hucksters won't tell you is tht the Internet is one big ocean of unedited data, without any pretense of completeness. Lacking editors, reviewers or critics, the Internet has become a wasteland of unfiltered data."

Interesting article but not exactly what I percieve. Of course, this guy is a newspaper man, and editorializing is a way of life there. Heck, he says the internet will never replace the daily paper in that article, but it already has in my case. The internet and television have replaced the daily paper. I think of the daily paper as too little too late. Want up to date news? Use the web and watch CNN or FOX News.

Or like me, keep them both running at the same time!

Most of what I concentrate on is money making ideas and activities, which is my main interest. I do however, use the web to answer questions kids send my way, or grandkids. I have learned to use search functions on various sites to answer questions, and the old time encyclopedia on the shelves in the library is so out of date by the time it goes into print....

Social networking is the new frontier in affiliate marketing. I like some of these new interactive sites. Post your articles or blog thoughts, make friends, get followers, join groups and all of it. I am still experimenting with exactly how to use them. They are much more fun and effective than cold call canvassing of the phone book!

I never totally believe an outrageous story until I find a couple of sources to verify it. The internet does open up some possibility of hucksterosity, and it does happen so you have to verify information. At the same time, it is faster than lightening and you get more than one perspective, unlike the old newspaper (a day old and a dollar short).

I always fear the internet grid will be wiped out, or somehow blacked out. The backbone cut, or whatever some bad guys could do to shut down the communication. That will be unpleasant and aweful if it ever happens.

I found a new site called Meetup.com and I am going to experiment with it, and network with some local affiliates who live right here in my area. This I hope will be fun. I signed up for one group already and will look forward to some day soon meeting them. Nothing like this in the newspaper, that's for sure.
